Everything was wrong on our latest trip to Al-Ameer this past friday. From the waitress who greeted us and gave strange expressions on our request for a particular booth( on an afternoon where the whole place was empty except for one table), to the person who brought the menu and later served us. .I saw her tearing the thin pitas apart (for putting under the food on platters) DIRECTLY on the table without any plate/cutting board underneath( Eww!). She was poor in responding to any requests we made during the meal & wasnt up for any feedback at all. Even the food wasn't like always, meat was much dry & salad was too sour. When i told the server that salad used to be so good with lemon on the side so whoever likes extra could squeeze more on top, she dismissed by saying more people like it this way and that no one told me it used to be like that, ever since im working i dont bring any lemon on the side!Big family platter came WithOUT the falafel . When requested a lid and 1-2 extra garlic sauce to go with the huge platter leftovers, her response was ' i cant' !what? U cant bring a lid for this 1 garlic sauce or cant bring 1-2 more( she brought us 4 small garlic sauces & tahini for us 5 people , we didnt touch tahini but used all garlic ). She started quoting example of ''how a guy abused the extra sauce policy , he came here ordered a salad and requested 9 garlic sauces to go at the end''. I mean give me a break lady... Our order was over $80 without the tip and her response was quite humiliating . That called for a feedback to the management as servers like her are the ones whose attitude can spoil a day and cause a loss of loyal customers for years, in a jiffy . I did speak to the management who listened to me with respect but their response couldnt make up for the ruined lunch we had on an otherwise great day !

The good is good here, but the service is rude and awful. Don't ever ask for special request because they will flat out tell you it can't be done. We ordered the al-ameer platter and I asked that the chicken be put in another plate because we didn't want it touching the meat. They said they couldn't do that. JUST PUT IT ON ANOTHER PLATE. My husband is allergic to chicken and they couldn't make this simple request. Over this place.

I ate here today with a large party for lunch. Just like (in my opinion) the other Al ameers place, New Yasmeen, etc. the food has gone downhill. All of us had something different, three of us are Lebanese, and we all agreed the food was not as good as past times. My schwarma was dry and overcooked, fatoush salad had way too much toast in it,and was overdressed. The raw kibbee was probably the best thing we had, but was not as "clean" as it could have been. The service was average. The mens room needs some attention.

Wow. Overpriced, bland, and the waif staff made me feel so uncomfortable. I got carry out and was shuffled around when I came to pick up my food, actually felt like I was a nuisance to them and there was no one in the place except a group of what looked like owners watching middle eastern CNN on a large screen in the back room. Terribly stale pita bread. I mean how do u get a falafel wrong? There are way too many good middle eastern spots to go to in the metro area but this is one to avoid! Blech! I don't even want to give one star

Very good Middle Eastern food. Clean restaurant with exceptional service! I always go here with a group of friends to enjoy the party platters. A good variety of food on these party platters. These restaurants are veggie friendly and healthy. The waiters are NOT the annoying type that check on your every 10 seconds. They also refill your waters in time without being disruptive...qualities that I look for in a restaurant. I have ordered from Al-Ameer multiple times for party trays and they are awlays a party pleaser. The food is always fresh and ready to eat. I highly recommend!

You cannot get better Middle-Eastern food in metro Detroit, I swear. I don't eat anyone's grape leaves but my family's, and these are GOOD. Everything is fresh, the rice is perfectly cooked, and the portions are big. Be mindful that this place is more traditional. I have to admit, I forgot that in my rush to choose a place for dinner, and I wore a rather sexy red dress during Ramadan. Oops! The service was great, and everyone was very nice, but I really wish I would have brought a sweater. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. Their bread is the best anywhere, hands down.

Amazing Ramadan buffet! So many options on the buffet. The bbq chicken breast in this creamy garlic sauce and the rice were my favourite. Service great too. Even though it was crazy busy, our waiter was on top of things...cleaning up plates and refilling beverages. The decor is beautiful and the place is very spacious.

Good, but not great. Service is either great or horrible. Good pricing. Better options for Middle Eastern in the area. But will back in a pinch.

Absolutely the best middle eastern food in the area. Never had a bad dish or experience here.

I beg to differ with some of the reviews here. With so many places to get middle eastern food in Metro Detroit I am still not sold on this. Service was rushed for a table.of 4 at 7 pm. Grape leaves lacked flavor and just tasted like lemon rice. Shish Tawook was seasoned and tasty but overcooked. Rice plentiful and bread was good. I've had better elsewhere, place was busy so maybe it was just an off day. Jury still out on this one.

Just let me open up with the fact that I've drove by Al-Ameer probably 150 times in my life. Well, not no more!!! I've now been to Al-Ameer West twice in less that a month. I was introduced to Al-Ameer by a co-worker that said he had a great restaurant to take us to for lunch and pulled up here. Well, I was a little hesitant at first, as LaPita in Dearborn is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant, but decided to grin and bear it. Needless to say I loved it and have been their one more time since. The staff is very nice, friendly and prompt to meet your dining needs. We ordered a medium hommous for an appetizer. They also brought pickled turnips and the white garlic sauce I asked for... The hommous was whipped nicely, and was very smooth, fresh and tasty. The pillow pocket bread was warm, perfect and hit the spot. The only disappointment both times I came here was the white garlic sauce. Both times it was really runny, and my only advice would be, I wish it was thicker. I like to load it up on my bread, but couldn't as it ran right off... :( My wife got the Chicken Schwarma, and although she liked it, wasn't crazy about the tomatoes in it. She was also surprised when she received french fries as the side with it. Instead of the schwarma, I ordered the Fattoush Salad with Chicken on top and loved it!! When dropping of the check, the waiter suggested to order the mixed meat pita next time as he said it was better tasting than the chicken only schwarma... Although we still like LaPita in Dearborn better, Al-Ameer is closer to our house and fills the Middle Eastern void also. We will definitely be back!!!

Yum!! Every time I come back to visit I must eat here! We ordered the chicken shawarma sandwhich, chicken shawarma plate, mediterrenean chicken plate, falafel. Everything came with salads! Portions are huge!!! Prices are super reasonable! Bread, garlic sauce and the best turnips are complimentary for every table. Highly recommend!!

Visited awhile back after reading and hearing some pretty stellar things about this place. I don't live around here anymore but I have relatives and friends that do, so I'm around often enough. Anyway, popped in with my sister and father for a little family sit-down. The restaurant was roomy, comfortable, and fairly quiet - good for really catching up with someone. The freshly baked bread was delicious and our server extremely attentive. We had a vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore at our table, and we were all extremely satisfied. I went with the Al Ameer Baked Salad (I'm a sucker for eggplant, folks) and a Vegetarian Grape Leaves sandwich. Both were excellent. I can also personally attest to the deliciousness of the Baba Ghanouge and Mjaddera Sandwich. My sister reported the Greek Salad to be quite tasty, and my father enjoyed his Chicken Tawook. I, for one, will certainly visit again.

Yum! There are two restaurants. Love the food at Al-Ameer! We had a party of 12, ordered the huge platters and ate everything in sight with tons of food leftover to take home. Wish we had a place like this in Los Angeles. The food is excellent

I think this is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. Has the best food anywhere! Try the stuffed lamb. It's the meat almost melts in your mouth because it's so tender and I love the rise with slivered almonds. Five stars all the way

I was telling a friend of mine last night about a hole-in-the-wall in Allen Park that I love to go to for lamb shawarma. He looked at me incredulously and asked, "Why would you go to Allen Park when you have Al Ameer right down the street from you!?" He raved about their lamb, and about how amazing their food is, so today, having a craving for hummus and shawarma, I decided that rather than go to my beloved hole-in-the-wall, I'd give this place a shot. I decided to call in my order, since I knew this is a sit-down establishment. I was told on the phone my food would be ready "in ten minutes." Twenty-five minutes later, when I arrived, I was informed that my order wasn't quite ready yet. So I sat down. And I waited. And I waited, and finally forty-five minutes after my order had been placed, I walked out with food in hand. When I got home (less than five miles away), I pulled out my lamb shawarma, only to find that not only were all the ingredients not combined, but the lamb had a ridiculous amount of fatty meat, was barely luke-warm, and very bland in taste. The chicken soup I ordered was okay (once I added some spices of my own to it), but the vegetables in it had the uniform look of canned vegetables. The labneh was only so-so. On the plus side, the pita bread was really tasty, as was the hummus. Not that I was able to get to all of the hummus, since they piled the lamb on top of it in the box. I'm pretty disappointed. I think (and by think, I mean know) in the future, I will stick to my hole-in-the-wall in Allen Park. The prices are better, the lamb more flavorful and less fatty, the shawarma sandwiches come already put together, and the service is quick and friendly.

Jacob and I visited Al-Ameer to see what all these great reviews were about. We went out of our way to visit and were expecting a steller experience. What we got was just sad. When we walked in, a hasty woman behind the counter told us to wait for a server to seat us. A woman came up and said "Follow me" and stuck us in the back corner. There weren't many diners in the place, so it seemed odd to put us so far away from everyone else. The surly waitress came to our table and just asked us "What do you want?". No "Hello, my name is ____, I'll be your server" or anything. She was just rude. We told her we'd never been there before and she just said she'll be back. No offer to tell us their specials, most popular dishes, anything. She simply did not try at all. We ordered and the food was okay... just okay. We're still smitten with the food at Malek Al Kabob and even Hamido over what we ate here. The service at our dinner was the nail in the coffin over the food, though. Our waitress never came back to check on us. She didn't even do the sneaky "How was your dinner [set check on the table]" move. She simply walked over to our table and slapped the check on the table. Umm... okay. We paid the tab, left the restaurant and will never be back. Fancy interiors and good reviews on Yelp don't make up for the lack of service and respect by the waitstaff.

Never fails, the out-of-towners get wowed by this place. One or the other, they have never had Arabic food or not as good! My past guests have gone home searching their hometown for something comparable to what we have here, no luck! I've had the picky eaters like plain sandwiches to the ones that want to try anything and everything like brain sandwiches! There's something for everyone! Had amazing service and the food was delicious as usual. The parking is limited and small, there is more parking 2 lots away on Ford Rd. It gets really bad that people start personalizing their own parking spots. It's well worth it if you can get in. Will be back soon, there's a chicken breast sub sandwich that I spotted on my way out!

Great food, for most part. "BEST" Toom (garlic sauce) & fried kibbee I have ever had!!! Shawarma was lacking in spice. Fottoush & hummus were great. Service was good. Will definitely be back!

Okay, so now that I have been back to Al-Ameer West I am having a problem. My last favorite Arabic restaurant was Beirut by Night, but now I'm leaning on the fence so to say! Went to Al-Ameer with my sister and sister-in-law. The decor is beautiful, so totally different than Beirut by Night. A bit more elegant, pricier, and they have an additional room off to the side if you would like to book a party. The sun was shining in my eyes and the waitress tried to fix the blinds, but I love the sun and told her all is good! I had been there for a party and fell in love with something that is not on their menu - it is called stuffed lamb after asking the waitress about it and describing it to her. There is no stuffing to the lamb though. Basically it is shredded lamb and rice - the rice is seasoned with different spices - i.e., cinnamon, allspice and 5 other types of seasonings they use. OMG it is so delicious. It came with a salad and of course I upgraded it to a fattoush salad. We also ordered a side of hummous. They bake their pita bread right there in the restaurant - so you know it is rocking! My sister-in-law decided to order her own dinner. I forget what it was, but there were absolutely no complaints coming from her. She also tasted and loved me and my sister's stuffed lamb. The manager came over and introduced himself to us and asked if all was satisfactory - what do you mean??? It was excellent! In which we conveyed to him. By the time we were ready to go out came desserts for us - complimentary of the manager. It was like remember the hot chocolate cream puffs from Sanders??? Well, it wasn't like that! It was a cream puff, but stuffed with cream and some sort of strawberry flavoring on the plate. Very delicious, but by this time I am the stuffed lamb!!!! Definitely I am going back - even if it is just for the stuffed lamb - DELICIOUS!

Overall good place to dine in or pick up carry out.. but I personally think the one in Dearborn on Warren is a lot better in their taste and quality...

Bought a shish Kafka sandwich and no sauce ????? Really ?? Never going their again I work as a waitress and we always put garlic or tahini in our sandwiches. You guys don't even have a lunch special ? What ever won't be seeing me again.

Very nice place inside. I usually got to the Dearborn Al-Ameer , so the food is about the same. This place has a little more room for large groups and cloth table covers. Small parking place when it comes to lunch hour rush, so I usually wait until 1pm to eat lunch here.

This place is great! A Muslim friend introduced me and I'll never look at middle eastern food the same! I'm not sure what we got but huge platters of meat and hummus came out and they were so delicious! A definite must try!!

I'll be the first person to say that I understand when places have bad nights, and thus get bad reviews, but i'm honestly confused about the ones here. One says "stale pita"? I'm not sure if this person is confusing Al-Ameer West with somewhere else. They have their large pita oven in the main room where you see them pull out pita. I've been coming here for years, and all different times/days, and I've always been given steaming hot pita (which is amazing, soft, pocket like). As for everything else, it does tend to be on the garlicky side, but as an Italian essentially raised in Dearborn, that's a positive to me. They have great fresh juices, and a large dessert case with a variety of desserts I don't find at any other Middle Eastern restaurants. My only complaint is that I've had better chicken shawarma elsewhere (here it tends to be more dark/greasy meat, but it's not bad). Overall, this place is consistently good. Service is always quiet, but very polite and helpful. Not sure who's gotten bad service here--I feel like I recognize everyone by this point.

First off, we as Yelpers must represent! I know I am not the first yelper to take part in this fine dinery.... Secondly, for those of you who judge on spelling, shame on you. Lastly, this is a fine establishment, always personable and fast. The food is delicious and well seasoned. As I have never been to the Middle East I can only hope that the food there is this good. The baba is awesome, shwarma delectable, and the bread warm enough to eat. I suggest this establishment to all who are open to tons of food at moderate prices and service that makes u feel special. Al Ameer is a classy hidden gem of Metro Detroit. If you want my advice ( and I know u do because u r reading this:)) give it a chance and b pleasantly surprised!

Excellent fresh Lebanese food. One of the best middle eastern restaurants in the area. Don't hesitate to eat here... Nice neighborhood and great food!

Fantastic Middle Eastern food! I had the combo meal, which included a shish kabob, a shish tawook, a chicken kafta, falafel, hummus, and rice. I opted for the cabbage and spinach salad for a dollar more, which was well worth it -- and served with piping-hot pitas! It was easily enough food for two people, though I did my best to make all the meat disappear. The shish kabob was my favorite item. The lamb was perfectly done.

"If there's one Middle Eastern restaurant to try in Michigan, it's Al-Ameer" said my friend as I embarked on 4 months in the D. Yet, every time I had a hankering for hummus, a craving for kibbeh, a lusting for labneh, I've found myself in Southfield, in Troy, in Livonia, with Dearborn Heights not in the cards. With just a day or two left in the D, it was on me to make this happen...so I grabbed my coworker and forced him to join me, and he happily obliged. Pickled cabbage and pepperoncini greeted us. Already a good sign. We decided on splitting the Al Ameer Platter, the Raw Kebbeh with Hashwi, and some grilled veggies to prevent the ensuing coronary. First off, the Kebbeh. I've had this dish quite a few times...and it's always good. Well, this was SPECTACULAR. In some ways, it didn't know if it was raw or baked, as the hashwi reminded me of the baked version of the dish. But like yin and yang, Donnie and Marie, or 94 and speeding tickets, I don't think one can go without the other. The cooked beef, onions, and almonds provide texture and flavor only making the rich flavor of the Kebbeh come out more. As for the Al Ameer platter, hummus, grape leaves, and fried kebbeh excelled for me. The grape leaves in particular were enjoyable due to a wonderful rice filler. The chicken shawarma I found a bit fatty but otherwise great, and although the lamb/beef shawarma was flavorful, I would have preferred something a bit more shaven. The shish tawook was solid but easily the least interesting thing served to us. Portions were huge, prices low, service attentive. And while there are plenty of good middle eastern restaurants (and some are better than others), I'm fully convinced that this is a bar I just haven't seen met anywhere else.

This is the first time I have had Middle Eastern food so I can't attest to the authenticity of it but the shawarma was delicious. I was impressed by the friendly service and can't wait to go back and try the boneless chicken that also comes highly recommended.

Living in a small town in Central Michigan, my sweetie and I are often far away from good ethnic food. This is important. My sweetie is a vegetarian, and ethnic dining is usually the best way for a vegetarian to dine out. So after wandering around Ikea for a while, we had worked up an appetite (if you have been there, you know what I mean) and needed something to eat. My sweetie remembered hearing about Al-Ameer on an Anthony Bourdain travel program, so we headed to Dearborn to try and find it. Which thankfully was quite easy, even if we found the location we were NOT looking for. The first impression upon entering: the atmosphere was an interesting combination of American-style family restaurant with the bright colors and garishness of Persian ornamentation. I liked the vibe; even though their dishes are, for the most part, simple every-day food, the décor made it feel like we were being treated to something special. The hostess and waitress were both very friendly. On occasion in an ethnic restaurant, the diner (like myself in this case) might be a bit ignorant of the food and its ingredients. The waitress was extremely helpful in explaining dishes that I was not familiar with, so I could make a well-informed decision on what to get. I appreciate it when they take the time to teach a new diner the ins and outs of the menu. The hostess, knowing we were new to the place, came by during our meal to see if we had questions and if we were enjoying the food. They made a point of giving us bread that was fresh from the oven, that was hot enough to burn fingers, and had the sweet earthy taste of grain. We both ordered simple dishes that would probably fall under the category of "peasant food" or "food for the masses." I ordered the baked kibbe, which is a meatloaf-style dish made with lamb meat. It can be served raw (the authentic way of serving the dish), fried, or baked. Not being big on raw foods, I figured baked was the next best choice. My sweetie ordered moujadara, which is a simple rice and lentil dish. I will start by relating my response to her dish, which was, "I could be happy eating that every day." Despite the simple ingredients, everything was perfect. The rice was cooked perfectly. The dish was flavorful and appealing to the palette. The kibbe was also satisfying, with a great combination of flavors, from the meat and the flour, as well as being filling. We also ordered a spinach salad as an appetizer. We were surprised that the spinach was raw, but there were no wilted leaves. Everything was fresh and the simple dressing was very flavorful. The clientele eating at Al-Ameer is also a sign of just how good the food is. Aside from my sweetie and myself, graduate-school educated professionals, was a Dearborn cop taking his lunch break; a Persian family; an African-American family; and a retired blue-collar couple. This shows that not only does the quality of their food transcend cultures, but that Al-Ameer treats everyone who comes through their doors, whether a first-timer or a regular, as welcome guests and companions. Food performing one of its most basic functions: bringing people together. Whether you are a local who has never considered stopping here for a meal, or someone heading through Detroit who wants something else besides a Coney dog, you must stop at Al-Ameer. If you leave even mildly disappointed, I would be surprised.

went back today for dinner and I had the boneless chicken with their special white sauce and it was delicious. that seems a very popular dish at this restaurant. be careful if you don't like garlic because it is really garlicky.

Al-Ameer is a pretty good place to get your Lebanese fix. The place kind of has a chain restaurant feel about the building, signage and street location. Nice large open space inside with a combination of booths and low tables. Thankfully the food is not chain like. The crowd for lunch was around 20 diners and mainly folks with middle-eastern heritage (which is a good sign) some very well dressed ladies in pairs, a couple of families and a couple of tables of older folks from outside the hood. For the food the three of us had the platter for two and on the recommendation of the waiter a half size of the 'special house chicken'. It was WAY too much food. The platter was pretty good especially the kibbeh, shish chicken and falafel. Lamb not really good. Hummus pretty reasonable. Accompanied with pretty decent fresh bed. The 'special house chicken' had a garlic sauce and was a little underwhelming. Fattoush salad was a highlight, really fresh and delicious (I recommend this dish). The tabouli was just tabouli I guess. Service very friendly and efficient.

wow i saw crazy money spent on decoration rather on decent fresh food, , one star for the prices because they are very affordable for such place, but seriously why would you wantta sell old chicken shawerma put it in a pita pocket with carrots and mushrooms to kill the old taste and call it the house special , the sujouk had a weird sauce with it maybe mayo mixed with water , chicken shawerma was horrible , and the kafta was nothing special , fries from the bag , makes it easier we can take that its happening everywhere , on top of that a manager behind the counter with an attitude hey look at me i run this place, greet your customers buddy , when you give somebody the credit card slip to sign , look at it see if they left a tip and say thank you , the least any customer excpects, alexander the great died long time ago , cheers to horrible service
